The idea for Fossil Free Ryerson took root in 2019, as a humble class project from our founding member, MJ Wright. MJ sought to bring together a small group of Ryerson students to follow in the footsteps of important Ryerson environmental groups like Divest Ryerson to challenge Ryerson to remove their investments from the fossil fuel industry. Since then, Fossil Free Ryerson has grown into a student-led grassroots organization. We are fighting to increase awareness about the climate crisis and empowering students to extend their environmental action beyond their own consumer actions to challenging the institutions like Ryerson that serve them.
Fossil Free Ryerson believes that Ryerson's actions speak louder than their words. They need to take a stand for a green future and with the values of the Ryerson population, values that they claim to hold. However, without pressure from students, alumni and all community members, change will not come. We need to hold our administration responsible.
